2019-2020 SWE Officers
SADIA SAEED: PRESIDENT
HA TRAN: VICE PRESIDENT
JESSICA RIDER: TREASURER
KRISTINA CELIS: SECRETARY
My name is Kristy Celis and I am a senior majoring in Mechanical and Energy Engineering. I decided to major in Mechanical Engineering because my favorite subjects growing up were math and physics. It all quickly became very intense and difficult, but I also love how challenging it is. I transferred in from a community college and really wanted to be more involved in school activities, so I decided to join SWE. It was super intimidating coming in as a transfer student, but SWE helped me meet new people with similar goals and interests as me. I have really enjoyed going to the meetings and learning from professionals in the engineering field. I also really love the company tours and getting to see everything in person. I hope that I am able to help the members and the organization as a whole get more guest speakers and more experiences!
OZIOMA OZIGOBO: VP OF PUBLIC RELATIONS
My name is Ozioma Ozigbo, but I go by Ozi. I am a junior in the Mechanical and Energy Engineering Department. Engineering was something I always wanted to do. From my early years, I was drawn to math and science. I chose mechanical and energy engineering because I have always been interested in the way machines work and renewable sources of energy. Other than engineering, I love writing, acting, learning about history and politics, listening to podcasts, fashion and modeling. Yes, I know that’s a lot. Currently, I am the VP of Public Relations for SWE. Some of the duties that come with this position include: tabling at events to ensure more people know about SWE and what it has to offer, organizing events among SWE members and other engineering orgs, and writing blog posts for our website to encourage women in STEM. I joined SWE to gain professional development and simply make friends with link-minded college students. The atmosphere when I walked into my first SWE meeting was so welcoming. After the first meeting, I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of in the long-run.
SUZANNA STENGER: VP OF PHILANTHROPY
STACEY NGUYEN: VP OF NETWORKING
SLATER CALDWELL: FRESHMAN REPRESENTATIVE
My name is Slater Caldwell and I am a Sophomore in Material science and Engineering. I chose this major because I like how research-heavy it was and how connect the professor were to their students. I chose SWE because I wanted to get involved with UNT engineers and also enjoyed doing volunteer work with other like-minded people. As the Freahman representative, I try to be an easy to talk to member of the officers where anyone can come up to me to get their ideas passed on directly to the head officers. I also assist the other officers with any project or volunteering that they need help with. I look forward to continually working with all of the members of UNT SWE.
TAHA MUBARAK: GRADUATE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE
FLORA TRINH: SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER/AD REPRESENTATIVE
My name is Flora Trinh! I am a sophomore in Mechanical and Energy Engineering. I chose engineering because I think it is a good combination of mathematics and creativity, two important aspects of me that are very difficult to mash together. Many people are confused when I say you need creativity to be an engineer so let me explain. There are different types of creativity and the one in particular that many engineers have is innovation. Engineers are problem solvers in two ways: thinking of a solution to fixing real world situations and solving the math behind fixing these situations. I love being able to exercise these parts of me! I was really intimidated by engineering my freshman year. I remember thinking, "What on earth have I gotten myself into?!" But after taking Intro to Mechanical Engineering, I learned about all the engineering clubs and thus found SWE. UNT SWE made me feel welcome and safe. It gave me the confidence to say "I can do it." There are still times where I get scared and stressed, but SWE helps me remember why I started, which is why I decided to become an officer.
