Should I join National SWE?
The short answer to this is yes, you should definitely join. But as with any short answer, there is always an even longer answer, and this is the case with this question. For most of our members, we recommend they join the National Level of SWE, but we realize that this may not be something that all members want to do or should do. Let me explain more.
Why you should join
Every year, National SWE hosts a conference for all SWE members to attend. This national conference is full of networking opportunities, job fairs, professional development events and social events. UNT SWE members attend each year partially through fundraising. Do you plan on continuing SWE throughout your college career? Throughout your career? Do you plan on attending conferences put on by National or Regional SWE? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should seriously think about signing up for SWE at the National level. If you didn't answer yes, keep reading.
Signing up for National SWE also looks great on your resume, grants you access to a large, strong network of professionals, allows you to sign up for scholarships and other recognition opportunities, and they also provide webinars to help you improve your leadership skills. There really aren't many cons to joining National SWE, other than the fact that it isn't free, but more on this later.
Why you may not want to join
If you don't plan on being very involved with SWE or going to conferences, then joining National SWE may not benefit you very much. Beyond that, there is not much of a reason for you not to join!

It will then ask you which type of membership you want to pay for, if you are an undergrad, select one of the following three options:
- Collegiate to Career (C2C), $50: If you're a freshman, sophomore, or this is your first semester of Junior year, this is the best deal that you can get as a collegiate. You pay $50 one time, fill out a form once a year to renew your membership, and you are a member of National SWE for your entire college career plus one year of your professional career.
- Collegiate $20: This membership will get you into National SWE, and the membership has to be renewed annually. This is a good option if you are a Junior or Senior.
- Joint: If you are a member of NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers), or AISES (American Indian Science & Engineering Society) then you can join SWE at a discounted rate! For more information visit swe.org.
