Jessica Rider“Hi, my name is Jessica Rider and I am running for UNT SWE’s 2020-21 section President! I am a junior, going on senior in Materials Science and Engineering. This will be my fourth year as a member of SWE, and my third year as an officer. I have previously served as Secretary and currently hold the position of Treasurer. There are many skills I’ve learned from these positions and my fellow leadership over the past few years that I am looking forward to applying to next year to continue to grow our SWE section. I am planning to expand our outreach, impact more of our community, continue increasing membership, partner with new companies for meetings and recruitment, and introduce mentorship opportunities. I am excited for this opportunity and to continue being a positive voice in SWE!” |
Stacey NguyenHi SWE Members!
I’m Stacey Nguyen, and I want to be your President for the upcoming year of 2020 - 2021. I’m pursuing my degree in Materials Science and Engineering, with a minor in Chemistry, and I will be a senior next year. Currently, I’m your VP of Networking officer and have been a member of SWE for almost a year. It is my honor to have the opportunity to serve this amazing organization whose mission means a great deal to me. My strong background in strategic planning, operations management, and resource procurement qualifies me for this position. The reason I want to be your President is for one reason only … YOU! Your voice and success fuel my actions. I can’t offer you guarantees (e.g. internship), but what I can offer you is my time, my dedication, and effort. I will dedicate my time to support you, seek out resources for you, and help navigate and guide you towards the goals you want to achieve. Whatever your goals might be, they will also be my goals. As your president or not, I invite you to reach out or say hi! I’d love to connect and collaborate on ideas. It’ll be a privilege to have your vote. Thank you for your support and for watching my video Please Take care and stay safe. Sincerely, Stacey Nguyen contact@staceynguyen.com . |

Treasurer
Gerardo GamboaMy name is Gerardo Gamboa and I am going to be a senior in the UNT Materials Science and Engineering department. I transferred to UNT in the spring of 2019 and have been warmly welcomed by UNT faculty, students, and organizations including SWE. Therefore, I’d like to give back to the UNT community by being running for treasurer of the UNT chapter of SWE for 2020-2021. I have previous experience as treasurer in organizations from middle school and high school. I would like to bring that to SWE my prior knowledge of book keeping and organizing funds to make next year as productive and successful as possible.

Secretary
|
Slater CaldwellMy name is Slater Caldwell and I am a Sophomore in Material science and Engineering. I chose this major because I like how research-heavy it was and how connect the professors were to their students. I chose SWE because I wanted to get involved with UNT engineers and enjoyed doing volunteer work with other like-minded people. I was previously the Undergraduate representative, and that taught me many new skills. I really enjoyed connecting with the officers and helping SWE become great. I look forward to continually working with all the members of UNT SWE.

Jessica NwachukwuHi! I'm Jessica Nwachukwu, a sophomore and computer engineering student. I've been empowered through SWE, by being surrounded by amazing female engineers who are just as excited to innovate as myself! I can't wait to accomplish more things with SWE next school year like attending the SWE conference, volunteering at Football games or fundraising events, and inspiring the next generation. In the past, I have been the IEEE-Computer Society’s Social Media Manager, where I managed the organization’s social media accounts. I have also been a part of multiple organizations like NSBE, SWE, IEEE-Computer Society, and IEEE. I'm running for the Director of Networking position because I want to encourage all SWE members to meet other engineers, both professional and students, because a large majority of job/ internship opportunities are made through networking. I would also like to create more essential networks for SWE by reaching out to the right people. These networks will hopefully give SWE access to more resources and opportunities. Additionally, I am running for the undergraduate representative position because I want to encourage more students to join SWE and our amazing community! Vote for me!

Director of Outreach
|
Noor JebbehMy name is Noor Jebbeh. I'm currently a sophomore studying construction engineering technology at the University of North Texas. I applied to become an officer in the society of women engineers, specifically the director of outreach officer position because I want to apply my experience from leadership that I gained in high school and college. Also, I want younger girls in the community to know more about us and inspire them to pursue a profession in the engineering field. The Society of Women Engineers is really important for young girls to know about. I would love for us to become more involved in elementary, middle and high schools in the Denton area so that we can do activities for the girls after school and therefore learn about their interests. With programs like the After-School Brain STEM program, we can further encourage and inspire girls to become successful in the STEM field in the future. I want to be an SWE officer so I can help these young girls and help let all of them know about us and to let the SWE members enjoy being around the young girls and tell them about their experiences

Head of Public Relations
Flora TrinhMy name is Flora Trinh! I am a sophomore in Mechanical and Energy Engineering and am pursuing a double major in Graphic Design. When I’m not busy with school work or SWE events, I love to draw, rock climb, and watch movies with my friends. I chose engineering because I think it is a good combination of mathematics and creativity, two important aspects of me that are very difficult to mash together. Many people are confused when I say you need creativity to be an engineer so let me explain. There are different types of creativity and the one in particular that many engineers have is innovation. Engineers are problem solvers in two ways: thinking of a solution to fixing real world situations and solving the math behind fixing these situations. I love being able to exercise these parts of me! I was really intimidated by engineering my freshman year. I remember thinking, "What on earth have I gotten myself into?!" But after taking Intro to Mechanical Engineering, I learned about all the engineering clubs and thus found SWE. UNT SWE made me feel welcome and safe. It gave me the confidence to say "I can do it." There are still times where I get scared and stressed, but SWE helps me remember why I started, which is why I decided to become an officer.

Mishal Raza
My name is Mishal Raza and I am currently a junior pursuing a degree in Mechanical and Energy Engineering at the University of North Texas,
I am honored to have the opportunity to hold a leadership position for SWE. Being here for my first semester as a transfer student, I have had a great time attending meetings and connecting with fellow engineers. I even had a lot of fun volunteering with SWE, educating school students on some engineering basics. SWE has been a very welcoming community. I am running for the post of Undergraduate Representative which requires organizing study sessions and spreading information about SWE to undergraduate students. It will be my job to not make anyone feel like an outsider. But why should you pick me? I can confidently say that I have had experience in leadership and service from back home in Tanzania and from my former college in Florida, where I was Vice President of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and constantly organized community service opportunities for members. I was also named top intern as part of a rigorous internship program and was privileged to be a featured graduate and to have had an article written on how I had made a difference as part of my college. I have also worked as a math and sciences tutor. SWE has yet again given me the opportunity to interact with different people and assist them in any way I can. As a person who has had her fair share of experiences, I think I bring to the table some new ideas and perspectives. I am a good team player and team leader, I am a good public speaker, communicate well and can speak 5 languages. I prioritize well and take any task at hand very seriously. Finally and most importantly, I am a problem solver and when faced with a challenge, do not hesitate to pursue all routes until success is attained. I truly care about making any student's experience at the University of North Texas and more importantly, as part of SWE nothing but exceptional. I have tried to give back to society in the small ways I can and would love to have yet another chance to do more. |
Graduate Representative
Nida Ahsan
I am Nida Ahsan, currently enrolled as PhD candidate at Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering at University of North Texas, Denton. I belong from a small town, “Okara”, located in Punjab province of Pakistan. I completed my high school and college in 2000 and 2004, respectively. The first question I am asked from any employment is usually about the gaps in my study. Previously, it seemed odd to tell this but now it is quite normal to say that I had colon disease and my whole large intestine was removed in a surgery and I am using a permanent ileostomy bag. For anyone’s life, there come some boost points to go ahead for struggle to face the hurdles and utilize the opportunities. For me, it was the start! In 2009, I finished my undergraduate in Computational Physics form Center for High Energy Physics, University of the Punjab, Lahore. Again I took one year gap to be part of Alhuda International Welfare Foundation, Pakistan. I have a satisfaction in the way that I find what I love; inner peace through learning and serving. Next in 2010, I started my Masters in National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad. I consider myself lucky to get the opportunity of working through Supercomputing Research and Education Center (ScREC). After graduating in 2013, I worked as a visiting teacher to a local collage for some months. In parallel, I participated different community and volunteer works. My induction in Institute of Space Technology (IST) was in 2014. It kept me to look after an initially established Modeling and Simulation lab under the Department of Aerospace Engineering. In parallel, I worked as lecturer for same department and taught the computational related courses to undergraduate students. It was there, I got many opportunities to attend extracurricular activities and workshops. In 2019, I came USA and started my doctorate studies in UNT. First year gone through many personal challenges. However, time has taught me to manage my health and living with patience, so that I enjoyed many years of my life. Now, when I reflected back on the years passed, I really understand that education is the strongest force through which I still stand. It is here in UNT, I learned how to get myself back on track through self-learning. Few weeks ago, one of my friends encouraged me to apply for the Society of Women Engineers and I am here. I was asked to tell something that why I want to run for officer’s position. Personally, I am interested for the position of graduate representative. I will not say that I am perfect for any position and I will do something extraordinary. I just want to become one drop that creates some ripples in the pond and keep it lively. If society feel that I am suitable, I will do my best to fulfil all the job descriptions. I never disappointed to my teachers or boss during my previous jobs. However, I feel myself slow learner and slow worker. But that does not mean that I have lack of energy. I am hardworking person. My passion is to be involve in exploration of new learning platforms where I can find vast perspective to grow. |

Zarrin Bashir"My name is Zarrin Bashir and I'm excited to be running for Social Media Manager, for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. I am a rising senior majoring in Mechanical and Energy Engineering, and minoring in Mathematics."
Engineering has always been a passion of mine and I love how I get to share my passion with so many wonderful people through SWE. To me, SWE has always been a welcoming space for engineers to learn from one another and support each other. I am so happy with the choice I made to go to my first SWE meeting my freshman year. After being overwhelmed with the idea of becoming a successful engineer and having so many questions, SWE really helped me see the bigger picture and made me feel so much more welcomed to the world of engineering. Especially, as a young woman in engineering, this organization made me feel empowered and confident as a student. Over the last three years, through SWE, I made new friends and met so many inspiring people. I’ve also enjoyed volunteering in our events, such as STEM day at the Park and concessions stands. One of my favorite events to volunteer at is STEM day at the Park with SWE, where we get to do fun activities and ultimately inspire future engineers! After becoming an active member, I’ve always wanted to get more involved with SWE. Now that I am going into my senior year of college soon and have gained a lot more experience academically and professionally, I want to become a SWE officer to lend a bigger hand in running the organization and to help out creatively as Social Media Manager. I very much look forward to the prospect of being on the SWE board. As SWE Officer, I’d like to work with all the other officers to build a fun and insightful environment for the members so we can all share our ideas, learn from one another, and grow together as SWEsters and fellow engineers. |
